GST and taxable supply information
Since 1 April 2023, New Zealand's tax invoice rules are called taxable supply information, and what you must show depends on the invoice total. Up to $200 nothing is required; up to $1,000 your name, GST number, the date, a description and the total with GST; above $1,000 also your client's name and one contact detail, the quantity, and the GST amount. The checklist switches between these tiers as your total changes.
GST is 15%; mark exports and other zero-rated supplies line by line. Your GST number is checked against Inland Revenue's check-digit rule to catch typos.

Frequently asked questions
What must a New Zealand GST invoice show?
It depends on the total. Up to $200 nothing is required. Up to $1,000: your name, GST number, the date, a description and the total including GST. Above $1,000: also the buyer's name and a contact detail, the quantity and the GST amount. The checklist follows these tiers.
Do I still need to call it a tax invoice?
Since April 2023 the words "tax invoice" are not required, but GST-registered sellers often still use them, so the generator keeps that title.
Is my GST number checked?
Its check digit is, using Inland Revenue's rule, which catches most typos. The tool does not look the number up.
Can I enter prices including GST?
Yes. Set prices to "Including tax": the invoice works out the GST included and says the total includes GST.
Do you store my invoices?
No. Your invoice is sent to our server only to build the preview and the PDF, and the PDF is deleted within an hour. Your business details, draft and recent clients are saved in your own browser so you don't have to type them again; "Clear my data" removes them.
