    Invoicing in the United States

    No federal law prescribes what an invoice must contain, so the checklist here follows common practice: a number, issue and due dates, both parties, line items and the total, plus your payment terms. Sales tax is set by states and localities; enter the combined rate that applies to the sale and mark each line taxable or not.

    The PDF uses US Letter paper and US date and number formats. Add a PO number, a separate ship-to address and a late-fee note if you need them.

    What should a US invoice include?

    There is no federal law that sets out invoice contents, but an invoice normally shows an invoice number, issue and due dates, your business and your client, the items with prices, any sales tax and the total. The checklist beside the preview tracks these.

    How is sales tax added?

    Enter your sales tax rate (state and local are usually combined into one rate) and mark each line taxable or not taxable. The tax is worked out once on the taxable total and rounded to the cent.

    Can I add bank details for payment?

    Yes: account name, bank, ABA routing number (checked for typos), account number, Zelle and "Make checks payable to". You can also add a payment link, printed with a QR code.

    Is the invoice generator free?

    Yes. The preview is unlimited, and each PDF counts as one of your daily tasks, like any other PDF Coder tool; a free account raises the daily limit. Downloading the same invoice again on the same day does not count again.

    Do you store my invoices?

    No. Your invoice is sent to our server only to build the preview and the PDF, and the PDF is deleted within an hour. Your business details, draft and recent clients are saved in your own browser so you don't have to type them again; "Clear my data" removes them.
